He told me he was taking me to lunch near Central Park (NYC) for my birthday. Then he guided me through Central Park, keeping up the pretense that we were just on our way to the restaurant. We then arrived at Bethesda Fountain in the park, which is one of the first places we visited together when we started dating. The setting was perfect - It was raining, and yet it was a beautiful fall day. There even happened to be a violinist nearby, adding an unplanned but romantic touch. So before he even got down on one knee, tears were streaming (mine). One of his close friends was waiting there to photograph the moment. We then took pictures in the park and enjoyed a scenic stroll home.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
Being a destination wedding, we didn't exactly have the luxury of driving down to the venue if we had any questions or decor decisions to make. Instead, we relied on the wonderful and hardworking team at Dreams Cap Cana and Indian Destination Wedding to do most of the legwork while we stayed in constant communication via Zoom calls, WhatsApp chats, and lots of emails. We used PowerPoint decks, spreadsheets, and every other corporate buzzword available to plan our wedding and make the right choices. One fun tidbit about our reception outfits and decor: we went with a purple, gold, and black color scheme. When asked, my husband told people it was a theme that represented royalty. In reality, he just finished playing a game called Expedition 33, and one of his favorite characters in there wore an outfit that was purple, gold, and black. What a nerd.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I've always wanted a pink wedding dress, and I went with sunset pink in the spirit of our tropical destination wedding in Punta Cana. I found inspiration online and showed it to our custom designer, Reena Anand of Libaas Xclusif. Representing good luck and fortune, we had a peacock theme for our wedding, and both of our outfits had a peacock couple embroidered into them.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
Getting to look at the limitless choices (budget pending of course) was really exciting. From the food, venues, and decor options offered, every page gave us a chance to envision the looks on the faces of our friends and family when they arrived to celebrate our special day with us. An unforeseen side effect of all this was getting to learn more about each other! I was surprised to learn my (now) husband actually has a good sense of design when he picked our various colors and set pieces. And since our wedding was set to take place in the Dominican Republic, we of course couldn't be hands-on for every part of the process, so we booked a stay at Dreams Cap Cana a few months before to meet with vendors in person and got to vacation at our future venue before the wedding!

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
Every time we meet up with someone who was at our wedding, they rave about the food so that's definitely up there! We had a full vegan menu provided by the resort and by Pranama (Indian cuisine). Our guests enjoyed a few other things. For instance, the attire. Everyone was so excited to wear fun Indian outfits to our wedding, and they looked stunning. We had a live painter who captured us at our beach ceremony on canvas, and our guests were able to witness this piece of art come to life. The artist (Julia Vitsenko) also painted portraits of our guests at the reception for them to take home! They also really loved that the wedding was taking place at a resort. In between our wedding events, we would walk through the resort and see all of our guests either lounging by the pool, enjoying a drink, or lying on the beach. They really liked that this wedding they were attending turned into a mini vacation!

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
After spending literal hours in the early morning getting ready for the wedding day, I finally had a chance to catch my breath only when we were both sitting under the Mandap while the priest was doing a prayer. The only sounds to be heard were the priest, the rustling wind through the palm trees, the ocean waves lapping on the shore, and a solitary bird cawing as it flew in the distance. I looked around at the surroundings - the sun lighting up the beach and the ocean. Then I saw my husband, dressed regally (and not in his usual sweatpants and a T-shirt). Even the slight rain that happened sometime during the ceremony felt like a blessing. That moment, with the sights and sounds, is etched into my mind because I remember thinking how lucky we were to be on this journey together.

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
This is Hari, the groom, and I'd like to answer this one! My wife is not only a natural-born dancer, but she's classically trained in various Indian dances and has experience training in Latin dances as well. I knew, from the bottom of my heart, that she was going to do a special dance at our wedding, but she kept her lips sealed about it. I would catch her practicing it from time to time but never knew what the whole routine would look like. On the night of our welcome party, she danced to my favorite Indian song, and she was extraordinary! I didn't realize it until I saw the videos months later, but I had a huge smile on my face from start to finish.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
The most important thing that will happen on your special day is saying "I do" and getting married. Everything else is just a bonus. Don't worry if something does or doesn't go your way because, chances are, 6 months later you're not even going to remember how it was supposed to go down. All you're going to remember is that you walked away from your venue as a married couple, ready to start the rest of your lives. Please, please, please don't stress yourself out if something isn't in the right place. You're in love, and everything is going to come together beautifully.
