Neeta Sharma of Mehndi Designer rounds out our finalist announcements for the day with a breathtaking submission of some of her finest work as a henna artist. This Northern Californian definitely has the mehndi skills to pay the bills after nearly three decades of practicing her craft professionally. Here's what she loves about being a mehndi artist:

"I love mehndi to a degree that some might consider to be obsession. It has been my deep-rooted passion for over 27 years. People often ask me why I do mehndi. Mehndi conjures up a different meaning and emotion for each person, but for me personally, it represents an exquisitely detailed, ancient art form that is part of my cultural heritage. I am proud to be able to decorate each bride-to-be with a pattern unique to her personality, and to include significant, meaningful elements that express her own "henna story". Although completely fluent in a range of styles from around the world, my personal joy is creating traditional wedding patterns. I love taking part in the magical celebration of an Indian wedding. I feel I am fulfilling my life's purpose every time I get to be a participant in each bride's special day.
I also derive tremendous satisfaction from sharing my expertise. I have multiple books published showcasing the different facets of mehndi styles, so that everyone from a novice to a seasoned pro can find something to be personally inspired by. I also teach classes at the local community college, as well as hosting various seminars throughout the year. Teaching and passing on the creative arts to another human being is an indescribable joy for me. It's a feeling of knowing that you are enabling somebody else to express their inner creativity in a way that words never can.
I want to share my knowledge, make every bride’s mehndi be a visual song, and help elevate this ancient art to the next level in whatever small ways I can." - Neeta Sharma
