Our next film is a Pakistani Princess' dream come true. This incredible highlight reel, beautifully created by Huqa Live (who also lent their expertise with DJ'ing, lighting and even decor!) features blushing bride, Kiran, and her now hubby, Raakin, in a dual city celebration of extraordinary proportions. Their beautiful love story will make you believe in "the one" if you already don't, and will definitely capture your heart. The trio of festivities all started in New York at the Mansion On Broadway, where the happy couple held their pre-wedding party, and moved into the main event, an unforgettable nikkah at the VIP Country Club in New Rochelle. Elegant Affairs was called on for those events to take charge of the floral and decor, and they delivered the most divinely delightful details. Our friend, Damion Edwards Photography, was also in New York with the newlyweds to snap up all their memorable moments. Once they tied the knot, they celebrated in true Maharani style at the InterContinental The Willard Washington D.C., where DJ Kush pulled out his ultimate celebratory playlist. The Pakistani bride of the hour looked exquisite from her tikka jhoomar down to her toes as she dazzled guests in a steel green reception lengha — which was custom designed by the groom's mother! The bride, on how she met the Raja of her dreams:
"They say you always meet the one when you aren't looking for them. We met at a mutual friend's wedding when I was in the process of moving abroad. He knew immediately, he stopped me at the wedding and introduced me to his mother as the "girl I am going to marry." It frightened me and I ran away! Two months later, while on pilgrimage to Mecca, amid a sea of 3 million people, our eyes, and our hearts locked. It was the ultimate sign from God that he was "the one". It was the best decision of my life."
On her Raja's romantic proposal:
"On our first date we walked the high line in New York City. We had a traditional engagement where our parents blessed the union. He promised he would buy me the engagement ring of my dreams and propose while there was still snow on the ground. When March came and seemed to almost end, my heart sank, still no ring, and a wedding slated for MAY!
There was one freak day at the end of March where it snowed! Totally unexpectedly. He took me to the high line and got down on one knee and said "I promised you there would be snow on the ground" It was magical. He is like this though, when he says something, it happens. Marriage, a proposal in the snow, I hope one day he asks to win the lottery!"
On her bridal wear:
"All my clothes were designed by Pakistani designer Nomi Ansari. He's been a joy to work with for over 6 years as he made me clothes to wear for other people's weddings. When it was my turn, we were both delighted to spend a day discussing what colors and styles were very "me." In the end, I chose a very traditional red for the wedding, mixed with tones of eggplant and a silver "farshi" to add a touch of modernity to the look."
On the role family and friends played:
"My mother has never been the sentimental sort. Neither have I. However there is one standout moment from my childhood I always carried with me. The very last time I saw my grandmother before she passed, she took the gold bangles from her then frail and delicate wrists and handed them to me. She said "wear these on your wedding day, and I will be there too watching you" I carried those bangles with me for 15 years. Never touching them. When I took them out to wear finally, I was crestfallen to realize they didn't fit. With two weeks to go, my mother moved heaven and earth to have a jeweler restore the bangles and add a clasp so I could wear them. And on my wedding day, it did feel like my grandmother watched over me and smiled."
Final thoughts from the bride:
"Our venues were amazing. We had a custom made stage/decor from Elegant Affairs. Our lighting and video was done by Huqa Live. Its an amazing wedding video, makes me feel like a Bollywood princess! My mehndi stain was very dark, because my mehndi artist sources loose henna powder from India and mixes it in NYC!"
