Maharani Nisha, on her engagement to Raja Chintan:

"When we got engaged, we had been dating for almost 21 months, about 11 months of it as a long distance relationship. I'd visit him every 4-6 weeks and we tried to take a vacation together every 6-8 months. Our first was an itinerary filled trip to Spain, so for our second trip we decided to go for a relaxing beach vacation in Jamaica. One morning, halfway through the trip, Chintan woke up early to get some water bottles. I couldn't fall back to sleep while waiting for him, even after he returned. So Chintan said we could finally watch the sunrise that I'd been asking to see since we arrived in Jamaica. It was still dark and we were trying to figure out if it would be best to watch the sunrise from our oceanfront room or from down on the beach. We went down to the beach and walked around a bit, but as sunlight started to show, we decided the view was better from our room. We rushed back to our suite, Chintan went to the balcony to set up the camera and then asked me to grab something from the bedroom. I was starting to get irritated because I thought I was going to miss the sunrise. Reluctant and frustrated, I opened the doors to the bedroom. The room was covered in red rose petals and a little box sat at the edge of the bed. I was in shock as I slowly said "C.h.i.n.t.a.n". Silence. Then I heard my name, "Nisha", and I turned around. There he was, down on one knee, with the ring, sun rising behind him. I just stood there, frozen, staring at him as he was speaking, thinking that it was all just a dream. "So, are you going to answer Nisha? My knee is hurting." I looked at him, tears filling my eyes and nodded. As I helped him up, he said come on, everyone is waiting. I was confused. We walked over to the balcony and I saw my parents and younger brother, his parents and younger brother, and his aunt and uncle on Google Hangouts on our iPad. He planned it so our family could be present for the proposal at sunrise. I looked at him and my heart swelled even more."

On her wedding style:

"Let me first start by saying Ragini with Weddings InStyle is really amazing. She is absolutely, hands down, THE BEST! She listened to my ideas and concerns, and worked with me to bring the wedding of my dreams to life. She really cares about her clients and wants to them to have their dream wedding. And what she created for the ceremony and reception, left me absolutely speechless. It was beyond anything I could have ever dreamed of.
When I dreamed about what my wedding, I knew I was going to wear a red & white wedding outfit. As for the theme and atmosphere, I knew I wanted it to be soft, romantic, & elegant. For the wedding decor, I kept with white/ivory florals in some of my favorite flowers - roses, hydrangeas, & orchids. A lucite mandap with suspended crystals and candle globes was exactly what I wanted and Ragini had it. I loved the clean and modern look it provided, while still being elegant and chic. When I walked into the ceremony space for the first time, and saw the wedding florals decorating the crystal pedestals down the aisle and across the lucite mandap, I was in awe of what Ragini had created. The flowers were so luxurious; petals were big and delicate, and so fragrant. The candles atop the lucite mandap and throughout the columns helped create a soft romantic glow. It was perfection. I wanted the evening reception to still be romantic & elegant, yet glamorous. What girl doesn't want to be a little glamorous? That's why I choose stage decor with draping and crystal curtains and even more florals. I wanted to incorporate plums and purple into my white/ivory color palette to accent my reception outfit. We did this by adding two different textures of specialty plum linen to the guest tables, and adding lavender roses and purple hydrangeas to create two completely different gorgeous centerpieces. I also wanted to add white callas (another favorite flower of mine) and Ragini had created a beautiful tall centerpiece with the white callas and purple hydrangeas. Ragini had the ideas of highlighting our family tables in soft champagne gold linen with all white florals elevated on crystal candelabras. And to top it all off, she created a beautiful, elegant draped entryway highlighted with crystal chandeliers to set the first impression for all guests entering our ceremony and reception space. Everything I had ever envisioned for my wedding was coming together, thanks to Ragini. She was able to take all the different things I was telling her and create a beautiful masterpiece that I truly believe only she could have successfully done! Thank you Ragini & Weddings InStyle!"

On her and her Raja's most memorable wedding day moment:

"My husband and I agree, our most memorable and special moment from our wedding day was our first dance. We danced to John Legend's "So High" as we were surrounded by hundreds of family and friends. However, as we danced, arm in arm, it felt as though we were alone and literally "on cloud 9". It was an indescribable feeling, so special and magical."

On the role family and friends played:

"My 3 bridesmaids and best friends, Kripa, Samantha, and Nina, have been there for me over the last 13 years. This was definitely no exception. Anyone who has planned a wedding knows that things always come up during the planning process. My friends kept me sane - giving advice, meeting up for dinners and happy hours, and days/weekends away from wedding planning. Everything I needed and more. Kripa, Samantha, and Nina are the best sisters I could have asked for.

My mother. She was my rock through the entire wedding planning process. She really went above and beyond to help me plan all the details of this wedding. I was very picky about everything and I knew exactly what I wanted, especially when we were shopping in India. If we couldn't find what I wanted, we kept shopping until we found it or had it made. In the end, I did have to let some things go because we were limited on time. I had a vision and I couldn't have done it without her. It was the best and biggest party my mom and I have ever planned! I will never be able to thank her enough for all she has done and still continues to do for me (and for putting up with me!). I love you Mom!"

On her mehndi:

"I was referred to Deepika Bhatt as a mehndi artist for my wedding by a coworker of mine. His family is friends with Deepika's husband and he had great things to say about her and her work. What was supposed to be a short meeting at Deepika's home office for a bridal mehndi consultation turned into hours of talking about her all natural, chemical-free mehndi paste, many different mehndi designs, and my wedding. She understood what I wanted for my bridal mehndi and it was so comfortable to be around her, I knew she was the perfect choice. Deepika and her husband, Sunil, arrived at our home the evening before my mehndi to have dinner and meet my family. They just fit in like family, offering to help with any wedding task needed. I can't say enough wonderful things about the two of them. Deepika came to my parents house Thursday morning to start my bridal mehndi. It was amazing to watch her create the beautiful designs on my arms/hands and feet. She is a wonderful, kind person and a true artist, explaining why she creates the designs and how their placement is important. I had so many compliments on my mehndi design and it lasted for almost 4 weeks! My family and I really enjoyed having Deepika and Sunil be a part of our special celebration."

On her wedding cake:

"The cake tasting was by far our favorite part of the wedding process. We had about 5 different consultations with bakers throughout the Asheville area in less than 4 days. That meant a lot of different cake flavors, fillings, and frostings. My husband and I love desserts and anything sweet, but sometimes frostings and fondant can be too sweet and sugary and we really don't like that. So, we knew we wanted a cake finished in buttercream (not the super sweet fondant) and decorated with fresh flowers. Debi with ... Just Simply Delicious (from Waynesville, NC) was wonderful to work with. She listened to everything we said, made sketches of our design, and had delicious samples for us to taste and told us we could create any flavor combination we could imagine. She uses natural, fresh, and local ingredients in each of her cakes, which she bakes right before the wedding so our options were endless. We choose 3 different flavors for each tier of our cake! But our favorite tier was lemon cake with layers of blueberry coulis and lemon cream icing and the addition of a lemon curd Bavarian on the top layer. It was amazing, flavorful, light and melt in your mouth delicious! On our wedding day, when we saw the cake for the first time, we were just blown away. Debi had really outdone herself. The cake was smoothed to perfection, piped with large scrolls, and had a cascade of gorgeous lavender roses provided by Ragini with Weddings InStyle. It was everything we imagined it would be. For about a month leading up to the wedding, my husband kept saying he could wait to eat our wedding cake. We definitely weren't disappointed!"
