How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
I met Akbar when we became classmates in business school! I had taken a year off from medical school to get my MBA. On the first day of class, I saw him across the room and felt strangely like I’d already met him before—I’d never felt that way before! Turns out, he felt exactly the same. After being friends for six months, we couldn’t ignore that instant connection we’d both felt and started dating. We knew we were each other’s person after our first kiss. I never believed in soulmates until I met Akbar!
Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
Akbar and I were long-distance (SC to OR—cross-country!), so anytime that we managed to see each other, I’d get suspicious! He coordinated an elaborate ruse where my friend and I went to an art gallery, and he showed up to propose! We then had a photo shoot and went to a restaurant where all our family and friends were waiting with a surprise party! He also booked an Airbnb, and that evening we had a game night with all of our closest friends to celebrate. It was a celebration that felt like it never ended!
Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
I used social media like Maharani Weddings for inspiration, and it was my incredible wedding planners @utsavplanners who helped turn all of my dreams into reality. They guided me through the process of picking a venue, figuring out decor, the timeline of the day, and choosing all the best vendors!
What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
The party was the best part of our wedding thanks to our awesome DJ and my own husband, who was able to DJ for an hour! It was so much fun for him and for our guests to dance to the vibes that he created! Not everyone can say that they DJed at their own wedding!
Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
Walking down the aisle was my favorite part of the day. In Telugu culture, we change our outfits halfway through the ceremony, so I took that as an opportunity to walk down the aisle twice. The first time, I walked with my bridesmaids, and the second time I walked with my parents. I chose specific songs that symbolized my relationships with these people that supported me throughout my life to and beyond my wedding day, and it felt downright cinematic!
Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
I cannot recommend choosing an experienced wedding planner who can blend not only Indian and American culture together but also understand and support your specific vision, especially if family has very strong opinions too!
