Riviera Maya brought the breeze; Nisha & Sunil brought the sparkle. From a turmeric-bright haldi to a starlit ceremony by the sea, their celebration unfolded like a color story—yellow to jet-black florals to deep bridal maroon to emerald reception glam. (Mother Nature even provided a built-in wind machine. Iconic.) Daylight poured over Generations Riviera Maya as these two wrapped themselves in haldi sunshine and marigold joy. Nisha’s floral jewelry and fresh mehndi (by Henna by Ash) glowed against her citrus palette—proof that golden hour is undefeated.
Come sangeet, the vibe flipped to “midnight garden.” Nisha’s embroidered lehenga bloomed with color, while Sunil’s classic look kept it sharp. The beachfront swing—framed in bright blooms—turned into their unofficial throne, and the ocean approved with applause-level waves. Under a canopy of cascading white florals, the sacred fire warmed the night as Naresh Kumar Shastri (Durga Mandir, Princeton NJ) led the vows. Layered rose varmalas, intricate kalire, and that shimmering maroon dupatta gave us the drama we live for. It was intimate, reverent, and cinematic—the kind of scene guests talk about on the flight home.
Nisha changed into a sparkling green ensemble, and Sunil matched with a tux that flashed silver embroidery and a perfectly coordinated bow tie—10/10 teamwork. Amit Kapoor – Kapoor Music Enterprise kept the dance floor in permanent “one more song” mode, while Generations Riviera Maya plated a feast worthy of the view. Glam by Alex Corbanezi stayed flawless through hugs, happy tears, and 10,000 steps. Pyaar Planning stitched the entire experience together—timelines that actually ran on time (we know), seamless transitions, and spaces that felt personal without losing that destination-wedding ease. The resort’s oceanfront settings did the heavy lifting; Pyaar made sure every moment felt like them.
Destination weddings rise or fall on logistics—enter Indian Destination Wedding. From room blocks and guest bookings to airport transfers and “where do I check in?” answers, they were the quiet concierge behind the scenes. Guests arrived relaxed, informed, and ready to celebrate—exactly how you want your favorite people to show up. Coordinating with the resort, planner, and photo/video teams, they kept the machine purring so Nisha & Sunil could just…be in love at the beach. Deo Studios captured the whole arc with crisp, luminous storytelling—skin tones that look like skin, movement that feels like memory. Fast baraat candids, wind-tousled portraits, and that moonlit mandap glow? All there, all gorgeous.
How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
I met Sunil on DilMil in December 2021 while I was pretty hopeless in the dating scene of my life. We started talking as I was finishing up finals for one of my master's degree classes. I got COVID during this time, and we had to postpone our first date to January when I tested negative. While I was sick, Sunil brought me a COVID-19 test, medicine, flowers, and some snacks and left them outside my apartment. He was the sweetest and most caring man I had ever talked to, and I hadn't even met him yet! We went on our first date in January 2022 and hit it off right away. He would make silly dad jokes where I used to roll my eyes at first, but slowly fell in love with. I knew Sunil was the one within the first year of our relationship because he felt like peace and calm to me; he was proof that opposites attract, and I could be my crazy, quirky self while he was a cool, calm, and collected guy. He was and is my soulmate in all aspects and the most supportive, loving partner I could ever have!
Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
Sunil proposed on a rooftop in NYC in March 2024. We were planning an engagement party for friends and family that took place in April 2024, and I knew he would propose before then. One weekend, he asked me to get ready and wear a beautiful dress as we were going on a date night in the city. I got dressed and walked out, and saw him looking dapper as ever in a casual suit. We went to the city, and it started to drizzle. This set the perfect mood as Sunil took me up to the rooftop, where the door swung open and I was met with a huge MARRY ME sign and a heart made of roses. The wet floor glistened with the light-up 'MARRY ME' sign, and Sunil gently led me to the middle of the venue, got down on one knee, expressed his feelings beautifully, and asked me to be his forever partner! It was the most intimate, magical moment of my life that I will never forget! I cherish and love that moment and love reminiscing back to it.
How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I knew I wanted to be a red lehenga bride from day one! I didn't have a vision but knew I wanted it to be intricate, and I would feel it once I saw and tried it! I found my dream wedding dress in Edison, NJ, at Miss India Boutique. Fun Fact: It was the first wedding lehenga I ever tried, and after shopping for 8 hours straight and trying 25-30 lehengas, I went right back to that one! It was a beautiful red lehenga with pearl and gold embroidery work and an off white/ivory essence.
I always knew I wanted to wear my favorite color, emerald green, for my reception and did exactly that! My sangeet and reception outfits were designed by me and KJ Designers in Canada. Tej Gautam from KJ Designer wedding (IG: @kjdesignerwedding) worked with me with such attention to detail and brought my vision to life! I highly recommend any and all brides to work with them!
What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
Dance Practice was the most enjoyable part of the planning process since it was my time to let loose and reconnect with Sunil and just have fun. We got to sweat and get some activity in, picking the songs brought so many laughs and nostalgia, and we got to have our own special moments and memories with no outside noise.
Also, shopping for clothes, jewelry, wedding ritual items, etc, with my family and friends is are memory I will always cherish. My cousins helped me choose my jewelry, and we had many tears as we put everything together. My mother and mother-in-law explained rituals and customs throughout the process that made it feel real and made me feel like a bride.
Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
3 Special Moments:
1) Our First Look was one of my favorite moments since Sunil was speechless when the dupatta was lifted, and all we heard were friends and family cheering, the waves crashing at the beach, and we felt all the love in the world for each other. I will never forget that feeling.
2) Sunil's surprise performance at our reception. I am a Bollywood fanatic and wanted the Bollywood love story and wedding, and Sunil delivered. While I planned most of it with my 'Type A' personality, Sunil swooped in with the most unexpected surprise. While giving our thank you speeches at our Reception, Sunil ended it by thanking me and letting me know he would then be giving me my Bollywood surprise performance! He danced to our favorite classic 90s and 2000s songs such as O O Jaane Jaana & Tainu Leke Me Javan. I was floored by his performance and felt like I was in a Bollywood movie of my own!
3) Bridal Party Performance - My Best Friend & MOH, Aaina, was in charge of performances, and she delivered the performances of our dreams! It started off with Aaina & Jeff doing a skit of our love story, then a bridesmaid performance, followed by a groomsmen performance. The skit was hilarious, cute, and took us down memory lane! It also gave some guests more insight into our love story! The performances were sizzling and also had some humor to them. The bridesmaids also did an emotional piece from Kal Ho Naa Ho (Chanda mere Chanda part of Maahi ve) and brought me up to the stage and covered me in roses with the groomsmen joining in. The performance ended with the whole bridal party performing, and we felt like it was all a dream! We love our friends, and they showed out for us like no other!
Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
I feel that wedding planning is never easy, and brides take the brunt of it, especially taking on their families' emotions, and end up forgetting about their own feelings and needs. I would advise brides to stay in the moment during their actual events, so they do not remember their wedding as a big, joyous blur. At every event, take a deep breath and stay in the moment, and realize where you are. At your mehndi, look down at your mehndi and around at all of your loved ones and ground yourself. Do the same at all of your other events! Especially on your wedding day, give yourself 5-10 minutes for each part of the day, such as staring at yourself as a bride for a few minutes and soaking it in, then for the first look, and even during the ceremony. Bask in this time because I promise it is the most beautiful, surreal moments, and you deserve to soak them in for all of your hard work!! :)
Nisha & Sunil, may your forever feel like Riviera breezes and emerald-lit nights—always. Love.
