If you are joining us mid feature, we have one of the prettiest weddings I have ever seen today. This destination/cruise wedding to the Bahamas was planned flawlessly by Sonal J. Shah Events, and the magnificent florals were done by our Platinum Guide member, Suhaag Garden.

Although their Mehndi and Sangeet were lovely, there was definitely one part of their wedding day that took the cake for me. I fell out of my chair when I saw this incredible red bridal lengha!  It is the ultimate ensemble for an Indian bride. It is just so, well……bridal. Seriously guys, I want to get married again and wearing the same one, or maybe just marry this gorgeous lengha instead.  It is modern, but done in a traditional color.  There is bling without being bedazzled.  And, our bride to be, Ekta, totally rocked it.

I know, I know, I tried to par down what our beauty had to say, but like I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I just could not do it. More details from our leading lady :

From the bride : I left the decisions on my hair and makeup for the last minute and even till the last minute had no clue as to what I was going to do for my hair and makeup for any of the events. Fortunately enough, I was blessed to have THE BEST hair and makeup artist, Edin Carpenter, who is a childhood friend of Dino’s. They both went to the same high school and she grew up to be an amazing hair and makeup artist working out of LA. Edin does all the celebrities hair and makeup such as Rihanna and more! For every event, I simply showed her what my outfits looked like and allowed her to work her magic. Her forte was teasing the hair and her makeup was dramatic and flawless. She even used Swarovski to glue to the side of my eyes and even to my hair for some events. I was so fortunate to have her, she is AMAZING!

Jilna, from Suhaag Garden, was one of BEST vendors. She and her mom helped us work around so many of the challenges we faced doing our events on the cruise. We opted not to go for real flowers as we were unable to bring fresh flowers on board the cruise and the cruise prices were ten times more than standard prices. Jilna came up with the idea of having wooden roses and boutonnieres created from buds. We also had a challenge, being on the cruise, with the time allowed for us to set up décor so we were able to preset satin drapes on the poles around the lounge and LED lighting. They also decked out the sofa lounges with pin tuck bolster and square pillows scattered and other creative items such as wooden benches and parasols. The mandap at the Atlantis was simply gorgeous.

Our photographer, Rob Drago, The Rad Photographer, was absolutely amazing and him and his team had great perspective. Sonal recommended him to us and we were extremely pleased with his work. We flew DJ Bosco in from India to DJ at our wedding. He is well connected with all the Bollywood stars in India and we were invited by him to Hritik Roshan's birthday party when we were in India. He rocked our wedding way into the wee hours and even stayed for the after party as the ship docked into Miami at 8am on Monday. My mehendi artist was world famous Ekta Kansara and Usha Shah who have been known for doing mehendi for celebrities such as Kajol, Priyanka Chopra, Hritik Roshan's wife, Aishwarya Rai and more. They are so unbelievable.

So, I don't know who was more excited about this wedding feature.  Ekta for being featured on Maharani, or me for receiving such a gorgeous submission to share with our community. Either way, huge congrats to the bride and groom and great job to all the vendors that made this destination Indian wedding a Caribbean dream come true!

All aboard! So, yesterday we kicked off our featured destination Indian wedding with a modern ceremony and killer mandap aboard a cruise ship.  I also promised gorgeous in yesterday’s post, and I am quite certain that today’s eye candy filled cruise reception will leave everyone as happy as some drunken sailors.

There is something for everyone in this wedding.  The beachy Maharani will smile ear to ear at this wedding cake adorned with sea shells and star fish.  The practical Maharani will cartwheel over this signed serving tray as a guest book – something that will definitely be used and talked about for parties to come.  The romantic Maharani will fall in love with the whimsical Manzanita trees decorated with crystals and soft flowers. The fashionista Maharani will go bonkers over this bride’s sea foam green bridal lengha.  No matter what type of Maharani you are, you will find something you go (Lady) gaga over in this Indian wedding!

I can’t believe that Memorial Day has come and gone and June is finally upon us!  It is the beginning of wedding season, and this year's Indian brides are moving at full speed.  Before we announce the winner of our bridesmaid gift idea contest, I thought that nothing would be more perfect than this destination Indian wedding aboard a cruise ship to get us cruisin this month.  All Indian brides ponder why they didn’t simply elope when it comes down to crunch time, but if you really get the urge to set sail, here is a way to do it beautifully!

I am completely, utterly obsessed with this mandap from Occasions by Shangrila.  I am not the only one who thinks it is lovely, because when owner of Occasions by Shangrila's daughter, Rena, got married, this is the mandap style she used!  This candle light mandap is modern, romantic, and is a creative idea for your Indian wedding ceremony.  It is extremely elegant yet economical.  And, if you are looking for a traditional twist on this mandap, picture colored laterns instead of the votives. Whether you are using this as an indoor or outdoor mandap, I think this is definite “I do!” {And, make sure you don't miss their awesome rich, red jai malas – love them}

We will be back tomorrow with the gorgeous reception from this destination Indian wedding, and in the mean time, we have the winner of our Pajama Sutra bridesmaid gift idea contest.  We got hundreds of incredible bridesmaid’s gift ideas submitted to us and it was tough to narrow them down. Here were some of our favorites:

Dimple’s digital photo frame loaded with pictures from the wedding was sentimental and sweet.

Sarah’s bridesmaid’s spa vacation getaway was as fabulous of an idea as fun.

Roshni’s bridesmaid’s goodie bag with awesome stuff like make up, necklace, and a sari had something for everyone.

But the idea that really took the (wedding) cake was from a Maharani named Anupama Ramlackhan.  Here is her classy, creative bridesmaid gift idea:

Right after choosing my nine (yes, nine!) bridesmaids, I knew I wanted to give them something they would remember they got at my wedding.  The tricky part was that some of my bridesmaids are not Indian and I wanted to give something everyone would like.  So then I decided to give them all a strand of pearls.

My mother and I bought the pearls in India and had them strung there.  Then we bought velvet cases from a jeweler and had the inside embroidered with an inscription as being from the both of us!

Bridesmaids gift idea contest winner

Congratulations Anupama! I want to say thank you to all of our contestants, and send Sarena Udani, of Pajama Sutra, a big e-hug!
