Alexandria, VA Indian Wedding by Akbar Sayed Photography

We’re gallivanting off to Alexandria, VA today for the nuptials of darling Arjoo and Sharath. They had the epitome of a big, fat Indian bash at The Westin Alexandria and we are swooning over every pristine detail. Arjoo was a vision in her silky red sari. Our favorite detail was her full sleeved, silk blouse. It was such a unique touch that elevated her look to a whole new level of elegance. Her glam squad from Makeup by Ana B fluttered their magic brushes, and Arjoo’s resulting beauty look was 100% bombshell. We were cooing in delight over the couple’s first look photos on the streets of Alexandria. These lovebirds have such sparkling chemistry, and their strong connection is evident in each of these precious photos! While the couple took some pre-ceremony portraits, a buzz swirled in the air as family and friends filed into The Westin Alexandria for the ceremony. In our next post we’ll cover each lovely ceremonial moment and share the gorg decor by Platinum Wedding and Decor. In the meantime, Akbar Sayed Photography snapped the most stunning photos of the action, and you can find all the lovely stills in the full gallery.

Angier, NC Indian Fusion Wedding by In His Image Photography

The party blasted off to a whole new stratosphere of fun when Jessica and Adhitya’s spectacular reception shindig at the Barclay Villa began! The couple descended a grand staircase to cheers from their adoring guests. The venue was an elegant masterpiece, filled with earthy yet lux touches by Jennifer V. Event Design and Planning that made the ambiance warm and romantic. This talented couple immediately put on their dancing shoes and performed a lovely first dance that had the crowd going wild. After a champagne toast, the cutting of the chic white cake, and savory bites by Catering Works Inc., the couple was raring to let loose! Jessica and Adhitya told us their favorite combination of their diverse backgrounds was in the fusion of reception music. DJ Rang led the charge with euphoric beats, with the couple requesting an eclectic mix of tunes included Jason Mraz, Kishore Kumar hits from the ‘60's, ‘70's and ‘80's era, and fun, Bollywood and Tamil hits. This list makes us want to get up and sashay out of our chair! The newlyweds told us that the dance floor was filled to the brim from the second the first song played. Readers take note: An Eastern meets Western playlist incorporating a multitide of genres and eras will always be a bona fide hit on the dance floor! Relive the action in the full gallery by In His Image Photography. And make sure to scroll below for all the behind the scenes scoop from this lovely duo!

Tell us about your proposal:
Adhi proposed on September 15, 2016. He told me we were going on a date to a really nice place. I was really tired after a long day at work, but was excited for some quality time with Adhi. We arrived at The Fearrington House Restaurant in Pittsboro, NC. Adhi ordered two champagnes and asked me to go outside and watch the cows in the field while we waited to be seated. While sitting outside and talking, Adhi got down on one knee and proposed to me. I said yes and began to cry. Shortly after the proposal, I realized all of the planning that had gone into it. The date Adhi proposed was approved by his mother and the Hindu calendar, and all of Adhi and my close friends and family were involved with planning the surprise. Adhi had even taken my parents out to dinner to ask for my hand in marriage. After some Facetimes, phone calls, and text messages of congratulations we went inside to celebrate and enjoy their wonderfully delicious food.

Was there any particular theme or style for your wedding:
The overall theme we were going for at our wedding was the blending of two cultures (Indian and American)

Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding? If yes, tell us more.
Yes! As an Indian and American couple we wanted to pull elements from both cultures into our wedding. We had a full Tamil Brahmin wedding in India, so we wanted to stay true to a traditional Christian wedding but add in some Indian touches as well.
Our bridesmaids and groomsmen wore traditional Indian wear. The bridesmaids wore cobalt blue sarees with orange embroidered tops. The groomsmen wore matching embroidered orange kurtas with blue dupattas. The outfits were ordered and designed by Adhi's Aunt, Uma Murlidhar. The flower girls wore matching blue indian dresses and the ring bearer was dressed in a gold kurta. Two days before the wedding we held a small mehendi night at our house. The bridesmaids, flower girls, ring bearer, and a few others got henna done for the wedding.
We also incorporated Indian food into our wedding. We had chole (a chickpea dish), a dosa station where guests could choose their fillings and chutney, samosas, and papri chaat. I think our favorite incorporation of culture was the music and dancing. We had a great DJ (DJ Rang) who plays a fusion of music including bollywood music. The dance floor was filled from the moment the music was played. In fact we decided to forgo our grand exit to fit in a few more minutes of dancing with our guests before the night was over. Our wedding displayed important aspects of both our cultures and the beauty of bringing two cultures and families together.

Thanks Jessica! Have a lovely day Maharanis!

Angier, NC Indian Fusion Wedding by In His Image Photography

We’ve finally arrived at the big moment! Jessica and Adhitya were wed under the sunshine drenched Noth Carolina sky in a refreshing outdoor ceremony at the Barclay Villa. Jennifer V. Event Design and Planning jazzed the space up with their artistic flourishes, and the ambiance was uplifting and perfectly suited for this charming duo. We’re loving so many details, such as the adorable ring bearer and flower girls in Indian garb. We are touched that the couple combined their Eastern and Western heritages for a fusion celebration that let both of their heritages shine. For the ceremony, a plethora of Jason Mraz songs were played since Jessica is a huge fan. Perhaps our favorite detail was Jessica’s Carrie Bradshaw-esque blue heels that twinkled playfully under her angelic white gown by David's Bridal. Adhitya’s heart skipped a beat as his beautiful bride made her way down the aisle, dolled up by Chrissie Owenby. The sentimental ceremony sealed the deal, and the duo were thrilled to be pronounced husband and wife! The fun continues with the duo’s glam reception soiree, but in the meantime, you can take a gander at all the precious snaps in the full gallery by In His Image Photography!

Angier, NC Indian Fusion Wedding by In His Image Photography

Excited groom Adhitya told Maharani Weddings, “The night that I proposed to her, I was shaking with nervousness until I got down on one knee. As soon as I saw the tears of joy in her eyes, I was shaking with excitement.” Aw! With such an emotional proposal, we knew Jessica and Adhitya’s wedding at Barclay Villa would consist of oodles of hearts, roses, and fuzzy feels. It was very important to the couple to combine their Western and Eastern backgrounds. Since the duo already had a wedding ceremony in India, their Angier, NC nuptial was a traditional Christian wedding with a multitude of Indian flourishes. The resulting celebration perfectly blended two beautiful cultures. We loved the behind the scenes peek at Maharani Jessica readying herself for the most important day of her life surrounded by her sari clad bridesmaids. After being glammed by Chrissie Owenby’s magic, brushes, her sun kissed makeup and tousled waves were pure perfection! And the vibrant blue and orange saris were such a delightful contrast to Jessica’s pristine white gown from David's Bridal. In this post, we share all the pre-wedding shots of the  bridal party, and we have to say, this is one handsome bunch! Coming right up is all the emotional ceremonial action, so hurry back!
